Who created crypto?

In 2009, the first cryptocurrency made its mark on the internet of things, Bitcoin was released to the world via a cryptography mailing list. Although Bitcoin has become the backbone of the cryptocurrency markets, there is still very little known about the person or people that coded it. The name first linked to the coding of Bitcoin is Satoshi Nakamoto. The name Satoshi has conjured up many conspiracies about who this mysterious figure is and why they created the worlds’ first cryptocurrency. Dorien S. Nakamoto was credited as the creator in mainstream media due to his name and experience in engineering, the older Asian man made various statements confirming that he had no involvement in the creation of the cryptocurrency. The first known contact with Satoshi, aside from his code, was a collaborative effort between him and Hal Finney. Hal was a console game developer who made contact with Satoshi shortly after he announced the software release, Hal had offered to test mine the first few coins. Satoshi sent over 10 bitcoins from block 70, the coins were confirmed and Bitcoin began the cryptocurrency revolution we know today. Hal Finney, like Dorien, was accused of and denied being the creator of Bitcoin. These are people who have been accused of being the unknown creator, let’s take a look at those who claim to be him.

Claims to fame

In an almost continuous effort to claim the title of creator, we find Craig Wright. Craig first started this tirade in 2016, drawing attention and disapproval from the community. He said he had proof that he was indeed the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi. Upon all the attention arising, the FBI showed an interest in these claims, Craig said he would not be providing proof of access to the earliest keys as he did not have the courage. This was in 2016, fast forward to 2019. Chains are controversial and forks are more possible, Craig forks the Bitcoin Cash Blockchain and creates BCH-SV. He continues to try claim fame, offering proof that the community deems unconvincing, he released a research paper he supposedly wrote for the Australian government in 2001 called “Black Net”. Black Net is a plagiarised copy of the Bitcoin white paper, the final October 2008 release. There had been a private release via a cryptography mailing list in August which featured the Bitcoin white paper with some errors, later refined and released in October. There are clearly problems with his proof, the community asked for more. Craig offered defamation lawsuits. Craig has launched multiple lawsuits against industry leads who have denied him as creator due to his lack of proof, this has caused an even bigger stir of situations for Mr. Wright. As the tensions rise, certain exchanges began delisting BCH-SV. Binance, Shapeshift.io, and Kraken all moved to have BCH-SV delisted from their exchanges. The Winklevoss Twins, who founded the Gemini exchange, even went on to say they would not be delisting BCH-SV because it was never listed to begin with. A lot of controversies just to hold the title of Bitcoin creator.

Will we ever know?

Unless Satoshi comes forwards by himself and says he is who he is, backed by proof of either private keys or precoding, then no. Satoshi clearly wanted to stay unseen for a reason, whether the hype of reveal died down or other hidden agendas, but he did leave a message before he left. "The root problem with conventional currency is all the trust that's required to make it work. The central bank must be trusted not to debase the currency, but the history of fiat currencies is full of breaches of that trust. Banks must be trusted to hold our money and transfer it electronically, but they lend it out in waves of credit bubbles with barely a fraction in reserve. We have to trust them with our privacy, trust them not to let identity thieves drain our accounts." There is no face to Bitcoin like Craig to BCH-SV. Bitcoin is a decentralized currency run by the community. Without the community, there wouldn't be the Bitcoin we know today or all the cryptocurrency projects to follow. We may never know who the creator of Bitcoin is but we can accredit the success of the cryptocurrency ecosystem to the community. We the community grew Bitcoin and continue to grow cryptocurrency with every transfer. Get involved in creating a greater cryptocurrency economy, buy Bitcoin and other crypto tokens with Bitvalex.
